NIAB's headquarters is based at Lawrence Weaver Road in Cambridge, an innovative new campus opened in early 2020 on NIAB's original Old Granary site. The three buildings - Weaver, John Bingham and Crop Science - include offices, state-of-the-art laboratories, growth room facilities and meeting rooms, improving and modernising our previous facilities at Huntingdon Road, plus a new reception area. The new development reflects NIAB’s ambitions and aspirations across the regional, national and international agri-science and business communities. The NIAB Seed Handling Unit (SHU) is located on the farm site on Whitehouse Lane, behind the HQ.
NIAB's Park Farm site is near Histon outside Cambridge. The research station is home to The MacLeod Complex, our state-of-the-art glasshouses, outdoor ornamental growing facilities and variety and agronomy demonstration area alongside The Sophi Taylor Building, our BREEAM award-winning conference centre and Barns 1 and 2, opened in 2019, which include research laboratories and offices, crop and seed cold storage facilities, and analytical services laboratories.
Based on the 200+ ha original site of the East Malling and Wye Fruit Experimental Station, near Maidstone in Kent, NIAB EMR's East Malling site includes offices, laboratories, field and glasshouse facilities, alongside research, trials and commercial horticultural and arable land. It is also used as a centre for our arable members with field trials and demonstrations.
There are 13 regional centres across the UK, alongside numerous satellite trials sites, as well as our Black-grass Research Centre at Hardwick near Cambridge.
